The chapter titles are useful advice. The content of each chapter is rambling.

Way too much testosterone. The way they talk about women was a huge turn off.

As an ATLA fan, I really enjoyed this book! Great styling, a bit convoluted with north vs south at some point but overall enjoyable!

How To Rule An Empire And Get Away With It

This is charming and pulls you right in. An actor finds himself playing a hero and gets into deeper and deeper trouble. It's a lot of fun, and the narrator is likable, though there really are no other characters in the book, just 2-dimensional NPC's who betray, execute orders, cause trouble, etc. Still, I found I didn't mind much. Smart, fun and a good read.

Lake Of The Ozarks

This is another book that found me in the Nook! It's attractive cover showing a retro travel poster style helped to sell it to me. As a native Missourian, I know about The Lake of the Ozarks and have been many times. And, I've been a fan of the author, Bill Geist, whom I've seen doing his humorous anecdotes on TV, especially CBS' Sunday Morning. The subtitle of the book, My Surreal Summers in a Vanishing America, tells the main story. Mr. Geist is about 15 years older than me but I'm familiar with much of what he writes, especially the vanishing America part. Much of the early Lake of the Ozarks architecture as been torn done just as his Uncle's Arrowhead Lodge circa 1950s has been. Now, you find a sameness to much of the USA since the interstate highway system was implemented. Even regional differences that used to exist, such as in food and food outlets, have blended together. I loved the book because it recalled in me my youth, my summer jobs, and, for better or worse, how things used to be. I didn't know much about the history of the Lake of the Ozarks and enjoyed learning the details from Bill Geist

Josie believes that superheroes are still around, saving the world, even though they haven't been seen for years. But when she actually becomes one, she discovers that she's meant to team up with two other girls: and they couldn't be more different. However, when an evil plot unfolds to get secret technology to the nazis, Josie and her friends know they must put a stop to it. I really enjoyed this book because of the unique characters, and their determination to help in the war effort. However, sometimes the writing was unclear. Otherwise, this is an awesome book. The characters are smart, interesting, and unique, and it's a great book.

The story line picked up about half way through - then it got exciting. Hard to know whom to trust.

Very insightful memoir of a woman who both grew up in a cult and then survived the military as a woman.

3.5 Stars The overall story and plot were pretty engaging, and for most of the book, I was invested. The buildup had me thinking something major was coming—especially around Sasha and the wedding—but the ending really fell flat. It felt like all that tension and foreshadowing led to a “twist” that wasn’t much of a twist at all. I expected a lot more scheming or chaos, especially from Sasha, but it didn’t deliver. It had great potential, but the conclusion just didn’t match the suspense the book had been building.
