I enjoyed this one. It was nice to hear Kenan talk about his relationships and family, how he got into acting, what he's looking to work on next.

Good self-help style advice.

Mr. Nobody

Started off okay. Gets you thinking it might have a mystical touch to it but the author pulled the rug out from under me. Way to convoluted towards the end. Don’t recommend.

The Deerfield Massacre

I found it interesting. The beginning was gruesome. I wondered how the town could cope and the author followed up with many of the captive's stories.

How To Keep House While Drowning
by KC Davis

This book was written for me, today, coping with trauma, trying to therapy myself out of shame and negative self talk that I've carried around forever. I feel like KC Davis not only told me how I felt, but also said it was ok to feel like that and maybe here's a hack or two when I needed my space to function a little better. My main takeaway wasn't necessarily a list of tips but rather the grace to do less and be proud of what I do accomplish. This book was a godsend.

Turning 15 On The Road To Freedom

Tough to listen to but very moving. This first person account of the march to Selma in 1965 fills out the horrors and hate endured by Black people while also illustrating the community and hope of the time. Who we identify with, how we see ourselves in the story, what we do with this knowledge, how this is still glazed over in history classes... these are all important questions I am still mulling over personally and will continue to seek perspective about.

The Fifth Risk

On the one hand shows the shocking incompetence of the start of the tRump Administration but also highlights several amazing individuals who have done incredible work that benefits USA citizens. I also didn’t realize how much the National Weather Service did!

The Hunger Games

I love the hunger games. The Author has a way of making me feel, like I am the one in the hunger games. Whenever I start to get bored all of a sudden, my heart is pounding like I’m the one running from this fireball or someone throwing a knife at me. All I can really say is I love the hunger games.

Mexican Gothic
by Mexican Gothic Silvia Moreno-garcia

Mexican Gothic checks all the boxes of a good, crafty and very Mexican Gothic novel, it has enough of an evil and mysterious character(s), a peculiar hero, and a Victorian house that has a lot of secrets. This young author has a lot of talent, I might have asked a bit more from her editor as some chapters at the end are very heavy, but for the most part Silvia does an excellent job with the plot. I really appreciated and enjoyed all the references to the Mexican culture, it was a treat to have them incorporated in the story.

I'll Give You The Sun

Not your boy meets girl romance novel, but a story of love nonetheless. A generous dose of realism also takes over the storyline. Familiar love, teenage love, & love for self carries through as twins work to find themselves apart from each, while always connected. Unfortunately there is a lot of distaction throughout the book that took away from the beauty of interconnectedness I believe is the end goal. A book that is interesting, but one that is easy to take a break from until it's finally complete.
