Hated it.

Making Bombs For Hitler

You completely love the main character. It is not only so well written that I can picture everything perfectly but shines a light on the horror of concentration camps well keeping it age appropriate.

Summer In The City
by Alex Aster

I thought this was a great first read of Alex Aster’s writing. I found it similar to my favorite authors Abby Jimenez and Emily Henry. It’s a little cheesy at times, but also has you rooting for love, laughing , and crying with the characters. I found nostalgia in the setting of NYC from a trip I took last summer. Honestly, can this kind of love find me please?

Rules For Ruin
by Mimi Matthews

This was a major letdown. I went in expecting gothic romance and intrigue, but what I got was a painfully slow plot, flat characters, and a love story that felt forced and underdeveloped. The heroine lacked depth, the pacing dragged, and even the “ruin” part didn’t feel particularly high-stakes or emotionally compelling. Mimi Matthews usually delivers, but this felt like a rough draft compared to her other work. I kept waiting for the story to pick up or surprise me—but it never did. Disappointing from start to finish.

We All Live Here
by Jojo Moyes

okay but We All Live Here?? i wasn’t ready. jojo moyes really said “let me wreck your soul and then piece it back together with hope and humanity.” the characters felt SO real, like i wanted to hug them, scream at them, and move in next door. it’s giving messy, beautiful community vibes + second chances + people figuring it out together. cried. laughed. healed a little?? 10/10 recommend if you love emotional damage with purpose. ???????

This is one of those books that haunt you.

When We Cease To Understand The World
by Benjamin Labatut

Very interesting back stories of important scientific advances ... chemistry and physics. I learned a lot! While this book is in the fiction, the short stories are mostly non-fiction except the last one which is fiction. Thoroughly enjoyed the book and would recommend to others that have an interest in how science changes the world.

Sparrow Rising (skyborn #1)

This is a great book. Ellie Meadows of the Sparrow clan wants to be a Goldwing more than anything, and she is willing to travel very far to make her dream come true. And along the way, she meets some other kids who turn out to be a lot like her, and go from enemies to friends... and back again.

Cute story. Yet predictable.

Mexican Gothic
by Mexican Gothic Silvia Moreno-garcia

Mexican Gothic checks all the boxes of a good, crafty and very Mexican Gothic novel, it has enough of an evil and mysterious character(s), a peculiar hero, and a Victorian house that has a lot of secrets. This young author has a lot of talent, I might have asked a bit more from her editor as some chapters at the end are very heavy, but for the most part Silvia does an excellent job with the plot. I really appreciated and enjoyed all the references to the Mexican culture, it was a treat to have them incorporated in the story.
